Recreating a Farmhouse Dining Room on a Budget
A friend of mine recently sent me this photo. She said she was looking to redo her dining room and found this photo for inspiration. She had remembered, a few months ago, we had installed faux built-ins in our family room, and she wanted to do the same since she was on a budget. She was hoping to style the whole room for under $1,000, and I assured her that it was possible! Let’s find out what we suggested…
We began with these Billy Bookcases from IKEA along with the Oxberg doors. For the same design as in the photo, she needed two tall bookcases with the panel and glass doors and one small bookcase with doors. These can be anchored to the wall side-by-side, and adding baseboards along the bottom will conceal the seams creating a built-in look.
I found this Farmhouse Sconce on Amazon for on $30. There was no wiring where we wanted the sconce to be, so we utilized the Magic Puck trick.
Instead of a lightbulb, you can attach a Puck Light, like this Puck Light 2-Pack with Remote from Amazon. With the remote, you can easily turn the light on and off with no wiring.
To finish off the look, we added this Safavieh Natural Jute Rug from Overstock.com, this Farmhouse Chandelier from Overstock.com as well, and this Gather Sign from Etsy.com.
All in all, we came in under $150 with these items, and left enough money in the budget for some brand new paint!
